What Council Can Do For You

Council can provide you with the following information:

  • whether an individual or company is licensed as an insurance agent, salesperson or adjuster in British Columbia (referred to as a "licensee");
  • the type of insurance a licensed person or company is allowed to conduct;
  • whether or not they have restrictions or conditions on their licence; and
  • whether or not they have been subject to disciplinary action.
You can expect Council to look into legitimate complaints about the conduct of a licensee under its jurisdiction. Keep in mind that Council is authorized to discipline licensees who have been found to have breached the Act, but it does not have the power to order the payment of a claim or a refund of premiums or service fees.

To view the licensing details of an individual or company look under SEARCH LICENSEES. Information on disciplinary action taken on an individual, agency or firm can be obtained by CONTACTING COUNCIL'S OFFICE.
