BC insurer regulator seeks input on its draft insurer code of conduct and supplemental guideline

Published July 18, 2022

BC Financial Services Authority (BCFA), the provincial financial services regulator that oversees insurers, has drafted an insurer code of conduct including a supplemental guideline in accordance with amendments made in the Financial Institutions Act in 2019.

The draft Insurer Code of Market Conduct and Supplemental Guideline is out for consultation, in which BCFSA are specifically asking a set of questions to interested parties and the public related to the document. Answers to these questions will help inform any considerations or changes that should be addressed.

The code of conduct and supplemental guideline was created to promote harmonization within the insurance industry and align with the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators’ guidance on fair treatment of customers, which outlines expectations for how insurers and intermediaries conduct insurance business to ensure consumer protection.

If you are interested in providing feedback to the code of conduct and guideline, input can be sent to policy@bcfsa.ca by August 6, 2022.
