Changes to online criminal record checks
Published October 24, 2022
Starting on October 31, 2022, the Insurance Council will have criminal records checks available online for new licence applications through Triton Canada and will no longer accept criminal record checks obtained through other online criminal record check providers after November 30, 2022. The criminal record check through Triton will be accessible directly through the Insurance Council website.
Licensing applicants can still obtain their criminal record checks in-person through their local police or RCMP detachment. As we require the original criminal record check, these criminal record checks must be mailed or couriered to our office.
Effective December 1, 2022, agencies and firms must ensure new licensing applicants complete a criminal record check either through Triton via the Insurance Council website or at a local police/RCMP detachment. The Insurance Council will only accept online criminal record checks dated on or before November 30, 2022, from ScreeningCanada or other entities that use information obtained by the Canadian Police Information Centre. After this date, online criminal record checks obtained from sources other than Triton will not be valid.
