Q&A and updated info clarify Level 1 salesperson licence restrictions
Published December 13, 2024
The Insurance Council published an article, “Understanding level 1 general insurance salesperson licence restrictions and conditions,” on our website on September 20, 2024, also circulated via our monthly What’s New email. In response to licensee comments and questions regarding the article, we’ve updated some of the information in the original article and included a Q&A to provide further clarity on this topic.
What’s different
Under “Restricted Activities,” information has been updated to correctly reflect the changes to location restrictions that resulted from an earlier rule amendment:
“With the exception of Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC) insurance transactions, level 1 salespersons cannot sign or deliver a policy, binder, certificate of insurance, interim receipt for insurance, or any document that is intended to represent evidence of a contract of insurance.”
In addition to this, a Q&A has been provided to address many of the practice-related questions we received from licensees.
Where to find it
You can find the Q&A: Restrictions and Limitations for Level 1 General Insurance Salespersons document in Licensee Resources section of our website under “Notices.”
