Webcast: Overview of the Restricted Insurance Agency Licence & Rules

The Insurance Council of BC is hosting an informational webcast to provide an overview of the Restricted Insurance Agency (RIA) licence, which applies to certain non-insurance businesses that sell insurance incidental to their usual products or services in British Columbia.
This session is intended to support general awareness and understanding of the RIA licence and the regulatory framework that will apply to affected businesses. It will explain the purpose of the licence, outline the proposed Council Rules supporting the regime, and clarify which types of businesses and insurance products may fall within scope and which do not.

The Restricted Insurance Agency Licence Webcast will cover:
- An overview of the Insurance Council of BC’s regulatory role and public-protection mandate
- Background on the Restricted Insurance Agency licence regime and its legislative framework
- The types of non-insurance businesses and insurance products that may fall within the proposed regulation
- Key RIA program requirements, including agency oversight, Designated Representative responsibilities and training expectations
- An overview of proposed Council Rule changes and upcoming implementation timelines
If you are unable to attend the live webcast, a recording will be posted on the Insurance Council’s website in the weeks following the event. As registration space is limited, registrants who are no longer able to attend are kindly asked to cancel their registration to allow space for others.
