Restricted Insurance Agency Licence Implementation

In preparation for the Restricted Insurance Agent Licence Regulation, the Insurance Council of BC has been developing the elements of the new licence program. Now that the Province has published the regulation and the types of businesses included are confirmed, we will be sharing information about the proposed licence program and the Insurance Council will be engaging affected businesses, the public and other stakeholders to inform the development of a finalized licence program.

To be brought into effect, the finalized licence program needs to be written into the Insurance Council of BC’s Rules. This stage will include public consultation, followed by a request for approval from the Ministry of Finance.  Once these steps are complete, the Insurance Council will implement the licence program and start accepting applications.

How we'll engage stakeholders

The Insurance Council of BC is committed to keeping stakeholders informed and engaged as we prepare to launch the restricted insurance agency licence. In the months leading up to licence application, we will share updates through our website and other channels to explain what the licence is, why it matters and how it will impact businesses and consumers. Our goal is to provide accessible information that helps stakeholders understand the new restricted insurance agency licence program, its regulatory regime and the steps to get a licence.

To ensure transparency and collaboration we will invite feedback from businesses, industry associations and other interested parties through public consultation and virtual information sessions. These opportunities will allow stakeholders to ask questions, share perspectives and help shape the final licence program before launch. By engaging with affected stakeholders, we aim to make the transition smooth and straightforward while reinforcing our commitment to public protection and a fair, efficient licensing process.
