Financial assistance for uninsurable losses caused by October's atmospheric rains

The Government of British Columbia has declared that Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is available for eligible people, businesses and communities in the Lower Mainland that were affected by flooding from the atmospheric river during October 18-20, 2024. This funding may be applicable to insurance clients and applications for this DFA event must be submitted to the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness within 90 calendar days of the event declaration, that is by February 23, 2025.
The DFA is available to homeowners, renters, business owners, farmers, corporation-owned properties and charitable organizations to cover eligible uninsurable disaster-related losses, such as building repairs to a damaged principal residence, replacement of essential personal effects, cleanup and debris removal, for those affected within the following geographic boundaries:
- City of Port Coquitlam
- City of Coquitlam
- City of North Vancouver
- City of Surrey
- City of Port Moody
- Village of Anmore
- District of West Vancouver
- District of North Vancouver
- Squamish First Nation
