Council Rules Review

Rule 6(1)(b) — Location Restrictions for General Insurance Salespersons

Second consultation

Proposed changes to Rule 6(1)(b) - Location Restrictions for General Insurance Salespersons were brought forward for public consultation from March 12 to May 11, 2021.

Following this first consultation, an updated change was proposed based on feedback received. The revised amendment proposed removing the restrictions limiting level 1 licensees' insurance business activities to a specific location entirely. Follow-up consultation on this revised amendment was open from July 12 to August 13, 2021.

Consultation on Rule 6(1)(b) – Location Restrictions for General Insurance Salespersons is now closed.

Current Status

At their September 2021 meeting, Council’s voting members considered consultation feedback and approved a motion to submit the proposed Rule 6(1)(b) change for ministerial consent. The Insurance Council submitted a permanent rule amendment request to the Minister of Finance, which was approved and will come into effect in June 14, 2022, replacing the temporary urgent amendment to Rule 6(1)(b) currently in place.

This proposed rule change is part of the Council Rules Review Initiative.
