Annual licence renewal opens April 1: How to prepare

Published March 7, 2025

Insurance Council licensees are issued a continuous licence that authorizes them the ability to conduct insurance business. This means that for licensees to maintain their continuous licence, they must meet ongoing licensing and regulatory requirements detailed in the Insurance Council Rules and by providing confirmation they are abiding by the Rules when renewing their licence annually and paying the licence fee.

All licensees must complete annual licence renewal regardless of licence status or working status, if they intend to continue to be licensed. Annual licence renewal opens April 1 each year, and the deadline to renew is June 1, 2025. Any licence not renewed by July 31, 2025, will be cancelled for non-renewal. Licences renewed between June 2 and July 31, 2025, are subject to a late fee.

How to prepare
The first step in renewing your licence is for you to ensure you are eligible to renew, confirming you have met your ongoing licensing requirements, which includes maintaining your professional competence through ongoing learning, while meeting the CE guideline criteria for your licence class, as well as ensuring you are covered by the required Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance. Licensees cannot renew their licence unless they have met their CE requirements and are covered by the required E&O insurance. During renewal, you will be asked to submit declarations confirming that you are informed of and meeting your ongoing licensing requirements before you may proceed to renew your licence.

The next step in renewing your licence is for you to log into your online portal account and complete your renewal. Every licensee already has an online portal account, so there is no need to register for a new account. If you have forgotten your password or username, you can use the 'I've forgotten my password' or I've forgotten my username' buttons to help you get access to your account. If you don't remember the answer to your security question, or you no longer have access to the email address associated with your portal account to reset your password, then please reach out to our portal support team for help.
