Stakeholder engagement supports robust decision-making. The Insurance Council works with our licensees and other stakeholders to develop regulatory solutions that put public protection first.
Consultation Process
Council Rules set requirements that support the regulation of insurance licensees and guide how the Insurance Council fulfills its regulatory responsibilities. Consultation provides stakeholders and the public with an opportunity to review proposed amendments, understand their potential implications, and provide feedback before final decisions are made. It is also a legislative requirement under the
Insurance Council Rule Making Regulation.
Consultation objectives
- Support reasonable and meaningful engagement with stakeholders;
- Help stakeholders understand the proposed amendments and their implications;
- Gather feedback to inform Council’s discussions and decision-making;
- Meet legislative consultation requirements.
Council uses consultation feedback to inform discussions on proposed Rule amendments, identify where clarification or revisions may be needed, and determine whether proposed amendments should proceed as drafted or be revised.
As a public body, the Insurance Council of BC is subject to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and other provincial and federal privacy regulation.
